Many TCL TV owners have claimed that their TV will not turn on and that the LED light positioned below the TCL logo is blinking on and off. Fortunately, there is a fairly easy way of fixing this issue.

The LED light positioned on your TCL TV is the way your TV is communicating various statuses to you. This is positioned on the front panel and it can flash, blink continuously or stay on, based on what is happening with your TV.

TCL TV light blinking

There are a few reasons why the light on your TCL TV is flickering or blinking. It could be that your smart TV is getting updated, that it is starting up from the off state, or that your TCL smart TV is stuck in standby mode. In any case, you need to troubleshoot and understand the true cause of the issue.

Your TCL TV’s status light may be simply switched off from the settings menu if it’s disturbing you and you don’t want to see it anymore.

Before we explain how to turn off the status light let’s try to fix the issue that is causing the light blinking issue.

Reset your TCL TV

Your TCL TV light blinking light can be caused by your TV getting stuck on standby screen. In these circumstances, all you have to do is locate the little reset button on the back of the TV and push and hold it for 10 seconds with a paperclip or pen.

Holding the button pressed will restart your TV, but please be aware that it might take 3-4 attempts for it to succeed.

You should give the reset button on your TCL TV a solid 20 to 30 presses if you’re experiencing problems with the reset.

Some users of TCL TVs have found this solution to work when the press and hold didn’t reset the TCL television.

Locate the reset button on your TCL TVs

The reset button can be hard to find since it’s so small and some models don’t have a clear label next to it.

Most of the time the reset button is placed on the back panel of the TCL TV, next to the HDMI and USB ports area. Some have this panel on the back side of the TV, or on the left side of the TV.

Once you find the panel with all the ports start looking around it for a very small reset button.

When you locate it, press and hold it for 10 seconds.

Holding the button pressed will restart your TV, but please be aware that it might take 3-4 attempts for it to succeed.

Don’t give up until you manage to reset your TV using the reset button. This is the best solution for fixing the light blinking issue.

Unplug Roku from the wall power outlet

The easiest way of doing a soft reset to your Roku device is to do a power cycle and completely unplug the power from your device.

All you have to do is unplug the TCL Roku TV from the wall outlet, wait for at least 1 minute and then plug it back in.

When doing this kind of reset the important part is to wait at least 60 seconds without plugging the Roku back in so any residual power inside the device is drained before you plug it back in.

You can also keep the power button pressed while the TV is unplugged.

But make sure you press the actual power button on the TV and not the one on the remote.

After you plug the Roku back in check if you can still see the TCL Tv light blinking.

Check TCL TV internet connection

If your TCL TV light blinks after you’ve done the reset it might mean that there is something wrong with the network connection.

This can happen if you use wired internet or a wireless network.

To make sure the internet connection is good on your Roku device you should always check the status in the device settings. To do this go to HOME > SETTINGS > NETWORK > ABOUT.

Check the signal strength row, it should be Excellent or Good. Anything else besides that means you have an unstable internet connection.

You can also run a network check by choosing the Check connection option from that page, it doesn’t matter if you use wireless or wired internet.

While you’re checking the internet also verify that the ethernet cable is properly inserted in the ethernet port if you use a wired connection.

Check TCL TV remote control

If you still see the TCL TV light blinking the cause might be the remote control, which is not properly paired with the TCL TV.

Check your remote control for old batteries, and replace them just to make sure the remote is functioning properly.

Backlight issues

If you’ve tried all these solutions for fixing the TCL TV light blinking issue and the status light doesn’t stop blinking it might mean that your TCL TV has a backlight issue.

Backlight is an essential component of your TCL TV because this is the component responsible for lighting up the screen so the picture is visible.

Without it functioning properly you will only see a blank screen, but you might hear sound coming from the TCL TV.

If the backlight flickers or fails, you will get a blinking light but no image on the screen.

This issue is hard to fix and it’s recommended to reach out to a professional because the fix will require you to remove the back cover of the TV and locate the bad LED using a multi-meter.

After you find the bad LED you will need to replace it and then put the cover back on the TV.

Conclusion

Most TCL TVs have dealt with a flickering light issue, but having a light constantly blinking is annoying and can be distracting for the user.

If your TCL TV has a blinking light stuck on it you will need to perform a power cycle, system update or factory reset on it.

To do a reset find the reset button located on the back of the TV. Use a pen or paperclip to press and hold it for at least 10 seconds.

Make sure to try this 3-4 times if it doesn’t reset from the first try, or try to rapidly press the button 20-30 times. This reset might require multiple attempts before it is triggered.

You can also try power cycling on your TV. To do this unplug your TV from the power outlet for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in.

If the TV doesn’t stop blinking then the issue might be with the backlight. This is a more complicated repair and requires the dismantling of your TV, so if you’re not good at these types of fixes you should contact a professional.

A blinking light on the TV screen can cause serious worries for you, but fortunately one of these fixes helped you with this problem.
